I closed all tabs and bulk re-opened them. I then did a complete shutdown and power up. I ran a disk cleanup and nothing changed. Then ran some malware scans and it came back clean. (all before GIMP)Īfter I uninstalled GIMP, I restarted everything with no change. It had been sitting there with the 'update' icon for about a week and I was ignoring it but apparently an automatic update went through (Windows maybe?) and restarted overnight. So everything seems to be working normally again.Ĭhrome was updated to the latest version this morning, just by chance. But I would look into the graphics card at least. Any other program could have done it.īesides that and the generic "update your graphics drivers" advice, I'm not sure what you do now or why exactly this may have happened. It definitely shouldn't overload it like that, but it's possible your card is having problems and that just sent it over the edge. Gimp can be quite heavy on the graphics card, especially while using filters or exporting. I've had my graphics card "die" for a few seconds before and that's pretty much exactly what happens. Your screen and tabs blacking out sounds distinctly to me like a graphics card issue. Gimp does not install extra software unless you download a shitty version from cnet or something. I've been installing this program for years and I literally reinstalled it a day or two ago with no problems, so it's not likely. Unless the site was hijacked it would be impossible for you to have a virus. My very first thought was that you got it from a dodgy site, but you say you used the direct download link on. I'll be immediately running every anti-malware thing I can and would be curious to know if anyone else ran into anything like this.įirst off: Not a computer expert, just a little research and anecdotal experience. I guess I can disregard everything they say from now on. WTH? I chose it because Tech Radar said it was the #1 free photo editor. What else did this thing install? This WAS a lightning fast, gaming laptop with plenty of free space right up until the second I installed this POS. I immediately uninstalled this piece of junk and restarted the computer and it's still doing it. Zero problems before this download (direct from the site). It now takes 30 seconds to even open a tab and there is a couple second lag to even click the mouse anywhere. Same for each subsequent tab that was open. After a long wait, the current tab finally 'woke up' and is horrifically laggy. When it came back up from it's 'sleep', every Chrome tab I had open (quite a few) was blacked out. As soon as I saved the pic, the screen went black for a couple minutes as if it turned off my computer. I downloaded it just because I wanted to mess with some colors for a t-shirt transfer. Has anyone experienced a disastrous performance decrease after downloading GIMP?
